The last day of the first leg of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 saw an engrossing play of cricket in the Elite Group, as thirty-two teams, divided into four groups, crossed swords across the country. A lot of young and emerging players marked a statement with solid individual performances, some experienced inclusions contributed heavily in their respective team's fairing. Teams from Maharashtra—Vidarbha, Maharashtra, and Mumbai were outright dominant, whereas, Karnataka, Tripura, Puducherry, Baroda, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh also won their season openers to go one up on the Ranji Trophy 2024 points table.

Elite Group A:
Saurashtra's first innings' lead against Jharkhand results in a draw at Rajkot. Cheteshwar Pujara's 243* on Day 3 was the highlight of the game. Prerak Mankad, on the other hand, also hit a magnificent century to add to Saurashtra's domination.

Elite Group B:
Ricky Bhui's 175-run stay at the crease ensures a first innings lead for Andhra against Bengal at Vizag. A 36-run lead was taken by Andhra, as Bengal ended the day on 82/1 in third innings to enforce a draw.

Mumbai too hot to handle for Bihar, as visiting side wins by an innings & 51 runs in Patna. The game was marred by a lot of controversies for the home team, but that did not help them go big against Ranji giants led by Shams Mulani in absence of Ajinkya Rahane.

Assam succumb against Chhattisgarh in Raipur despite Riyan Parag's blitzkrieg. Assam skipper Parag scored the second-fastest century in Ranji history, reaching the landmark in just 56 balls. However, Chhattisgarh chased the target with nine wickets left in hand.

Uttar Pradesh's declaration versus Kerala leads to drawn game in Alappuzha. Meanwhile, Jalaj Saxena achieved the feat of taking 600 wickets in domestic cricket to enter an elite list. The Kerala all-rounder has now joined the elite list with 9,000 runs and 600 dismissals alongside legends like Madan Lal and Vinoo Mankad.

Elite Group C:
Krishnamurthy Sidharth's 151* proves to be of no avail for Goa, as Tripura dominate in Agartala. Manisankar Murasingh and Rana Dutta shared six wickets equally between them after Tripura declared on 151 on Day 3.

Punjab's poor play affected by host's haunting in Hubli. After Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh's superb start to the second innings, none of the batters led the game forward well, as Karnataka needed only 51 runs to win on the final day.

Chandigarh escapes defeat to draw against Railways in Sector 16. After no play was possible yesterday, bad light intervened again. The day's start was delayed amidst to less visibility due to fog and haze. At the end, only 38 overs were bowled before players shook hands to draw curtains on the game.

Gujarat manage six points in a close-knit contest against Tamil Nadu in Valsad. Tamil Nadu lost eight wickets on Day 4, as Sai Kishore (48) remained as the highest scorer in second innings. Arzan Nagwaswalla (4 wickets) and Chintan Gaja (3 wickets) gave majority of the hurting to the opposition, leading to a 111-run victory.

Uttarakhand dodge defeat courtesy of Aditya Tare, Swapnil Singh's partnership. Soon after Tare's dismissal, a win became a possibility for MP, but tail-enders played out the remaining overs of the day. Meanwhile, Venkatesh Iyer shone with all-round performance in Dehradun.

Bad light allows no play on Day 4 in Jammu. In the midst of unsuitable playing conditions at the scheduled venues, Jammu also felt short on light to see some play happening on the day.

Mahesh Pithiya's fifer hands Baroda a win against Odisha in Vadodara, GJ. Although Odisha had an excellent start to their chase, losing four wickets in a span of only eight runs brought trouble for the Shantanu Mishra-led side.

Dull-looking Delhi manage a mere 51-run target to Puducherry, chased down easily on Kotla greentop. Day 4 had very less to offer from the game at Arun Jaitley Stadium, as Puducherry were convincingly dominant against an otherwise stronger on-paper Delhi.
