The 2024 Ranji Trophy clash between Karnataka and Goa saw batters Mayank Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal put forth brilliant performances on Day 2 of the clash. Agarwal hammered his 17th first-class century, and his second in the ongoing season.
Furthermore, he stitched a 200-run-plus stand with Devdutt Padikkal, which put Karnataka in a very commanding position. As a skipper, Agarwal amassed 114 runs in 180 deliveries, whereas Padikkal amassed 101 runs in 142 deliveries.
By the time of stumps on Day 2 of the clash, Karnataka found themselves at a score of 251 runs with the loss of four wickets, and the side trailed by 70 runs. Day 3 of the clash will begin with S.J. Nikin Jose and S. Sharath on strike. Both batters will look to get off to a fresh start on Day 3 and minimize their trail as much as possible.
Mayank Agarwal continues red hot form
The clash against Goa was Mayank Agarwal’s 97th first-class game. In his previous 96 games, the star batter has amassed 7248 runs to his name at an average of 45.58. Besides his 17 centuries in FC cricket, the Karnataka skipper has slammed 39 fifties to his name.
Furthermore, the 32-year-old has represented the national team on several occasions as well. Agarwal has played for India in five ODIs and 21 Test matches, where he has amassed 1574 runs to his name.
It is also worth noting that he was in sensational form in the 2022–23 Ranji Trophy as well; he amassed 990 runs in nine matches at an average of 82.50 and slammed three centuries and six fifties. As Karnataka trails by 70 runs with Day 2 done, the side will hope for a similar performance from the remaining batters and post a big total on the board for Goa as the side aims to maximize its lead.
