In a thrilling quarter-final clash at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, the Ranji Trophy 2024 encounter between Mumbai and Baroda ended in a draw. Mumbai became the fourth team to qualify for the semifinals, after Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha. Mumbai's advancement to the next stage was decided due to their first-innings lead, with the game ending in a draw.

The match saw remarkable performances, with young Musheer Khan contributing splendidly with bat and ball , leading to him earning the Player of the Match award. Musheer's 203* in the first innings set the tone for Mumbai's dominance, supplemented by his valuable contribution with the ball, claiming a crucial wicket of his U-19 Indian team colleague, Raj Limbani.

Notably, this encounter also saw a new record being set in the Ranji Trophy. Mumbai's last pair, Tanush Kotian, and Tushar Deshpande showcased exceptional resilience, both scoring centuries in the same innings.

Mumbai to face Tamil Nadu in semi-final clash

While Baroda displayed moments of brilliance, especially with skipper Vishnu Solanki and Shashwat Rawat's
commanding centuries in their first innings, the hosts' overall performance proved indomitable. Their disciplined bowling attack, led by Bhargav Bhatt's impressive seven-wicket haul in the second innings, posed substantial challenges for the Ajinkya Rahane-led side's batting line-up.

Mumbai emerged victorious by their first-innings lead of 36 runs, advancing to the semi-finals of the ongoing tournament. Earlier in the day, Vidarbha defeated Karnataka by 127 runs to enter the penultimate phase of the tournament.

In the upcoming semi-final clashes, Mumbai is set to face Tamil Nadu, while Vidarbha will take on Madhya Pradesh. Mumbai is the most successful team in the history of the premier domestic tournament with 41 titles under their belt. Mumbai will see Shreyas Iyer back in the squad for the clash against Tamil Nadu, the middle-order batter has confirmed his availability for the game.
