Ranji Trophy 2024: Narayan Jagadeesan enters history books after mammoth knock against Chandigarh

Tamil Nadu’s Narayan Jagadeesan entered the history books after a mammoth knock against Chandigarh in the Ranji Trophy. Becoming the player with the highest individual score for Tamil Nadu in List A cricket, scoring 321 runs in 403 deliveries, Jagadeesan etched his name in records.

The achievement helped him move past W.V. Raman’s previous record of 313 runs made in 1988 against Goa. His knock helped Tamil Nadu post a total of 610 runs in the first innings, after which the side declared a humongous lead of 499, eventually winning the game by an innings and 293 runs.

Furthermore, Jagadeesan was supported by Pradosh Ranjan Paul, who scored 105 runs, and B. Indrajith who continued his form, adding 123 runs on the board as Tamil Nadu attained the mammoth lead. After his knock, Jagadeesan came forward to reflect on his performance and opined that the knock was an embodiment of the discipline with which he has been working.

“It feels really good, but the record is a byproduct of what I have been trying to do in terms of discipline I had while playing. I was clear about what I needed to do,” Jagadeesan was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

“It is good when people say you have the record, but people will forget it tomorrow, or if I don’t score runs in three matches, no one will think about this,” he added.

Seeing his knock, veteran Indian batter Dinesh Karthik was heavily impressed as he took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and lauded the various performances that the players put forth in the Ranji clash.

“Well done, Jagadeesan, a 200, and then to back it up with a 300 in the next game requires unreal hunger. More power to you, and keep it going. Indrajith yet again gets a quality 100. Pradosh, another one too. Sandeep Warrier has been bowling brilliantly too, backed up by Sai Kishore. Some serious contenders for India A. Hopefully, we all get an opportunity very soon. Tamilnadu is crushing opposition at home,” Karthik tweeted.
