Narayan Jagadeesan is one such upcoming batter, who has leaped to great heights in his short domestic career so far. The Tamil Nadu batter continued to impress everyone with his recent performance in the ongoing clash against Railways in the Ranji Trophy 2024. Batting on Day 1, Jagadeesan has single-handedly carried Tamil Nadu, with the scoreboard reading 286/5 at Stumps.

Choosing to bat first, the R Sai Kishore-led side had a hurdled start as they lost opener R Vimal Kumar in the first over itself, while Jagadeesan stood at the other end. However, it was the knock of Jagadeesan that stabilised the innings for Tamil Nadu after the subpar start. The 28-year-old hit his seventh first-class century and pulled Tamil Nadu out of a dire situation.

Railways’ bowling line-up proved to be too much to handle for Tamil Nadu’s batters, as B Sachin scored 33 runs, with Baba Indrajith adding just 18 runs on the board.

Jagadeesan, on the other hand, scored 100 runs in 165 deliveries, and it is worth noting that his side were 192/4 when he reached the milestone. After losing the fourth wicket, he got involved in a 142-run stand alongside Boopathi Vaishna Kumar (67). This partnership ensured that Tamil Nadu reach a comfortable position, and batted the whole day, losing just five wickets, while Jagadeesan is batting on *155(254).

In the 35 First Class matches that Jagadeesan has played so far, the batter has amassed 1829 runs to his name at an average of 38.91 runs. Notably, this is Jagadeesan’s first century in the ongoing season; the 28-year-old missed out against Gujarat and did not get an opportunity to bat in the side’s previous game against Tripura.

Tamil Nadu aim to get first win on the board

Tamil Nadu haven't got off to the best of starts in Ranji Trophy. Being a part of Elite Group C in the tournament, the side has played two games so far and has managed to record no wins.

Having lost one game and the other producing no result, Tamil Nadu currently sits in seventh place in the standings with one point in two matches. However, with a good performance on the board against Railways, the side will hope that their fortune can turn around, and they record their first win of the tournament.

On the other hand, Railways have drawn both games that they have played so far and sit in fourth place with six points in two matches.
