Ranji Trophy is well underway with its 2024 edition, as forty teams are fighting it hard to make a mark on the big stage. In the game between Chhattisgarh and Assam, played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, the visiting team saw trouble until star all-rounder skipper Riyan Parag stepped in. While following on in the second innings, Riyan banged a brilliant 155 off just 87 balls to hand his team a lead after a slippery start.

Parag joined the crease on Day 3, when Assam had lost two of their men with 78 on the board on the last ball of the 21st over. A ball later, the batting team lost their third wicket in the form of Sumit Ghadigaonkar, which is when the real trouble began. However, Parag, the skipper of the Assamese state, had ideas to counterattack rather than hanging around and slowly building the innings.

Taking the Amandeep Khare-led side by surprise, Parag went against everything that came his way. Reaching his half-century in quick succession, the captain remained not out on 82 at Stumps on the third day. Next morning, the youngster continued his merry way to garner a masterly 155-run knock, which helped his side set a target for Chhattisgarh, although not a bigger one. His knock was flourished with a total of 11 boundaries and 12 towering maximums.

Notably, the all-rounder reached his century in just 56 balls, which entered the record books for the second-fastest hundred in Ranji Trophy's history only behind Rishabh Pant. Notably, the keeper-batter from Delhi reached the While wickets kept falling at the other end, Parag ended his knock as the lone warrior, before finally succumbing, as the scoreboard read 245 for 9 with a lead of 77 runs. After adding nine more runs, Assam were bundled out, as Chhattisgarh needed 87 runs to win.

During the chase, the Chhattisgarh openers KD Eknath and Rishabh Tiwari stitched an unassailable partnership to gain a ten-wicket victory and move one up on the Ranji Trophy 2024 points table, thereby putting Parag's knock in vain.landmark in just 48 balls against Jharkhand during the 2016-17 season.
