Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif has issued a legal notice to former Pakistan cricketer turned journalist, PJ Mir, for his defamatory statements against him and Javed Miandad. A notice has been sent seeking an apology within 14 days, failing which Mir will have to pay Rs 1 Billion for damaging the reputation of the former cricketer.
Notably, PJ Mir had claimed that Rashid Latif had slapped Javed Miandad in Antigua during Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies in 1993 live on a Pakistan channel. Reacting to his statement, Latif stated that he never slapped nor raised his voice in front of the legendary cricketer and called him a national hero and pride of Pakistan.

Latif took to X and wrote, “I never slapped or even raised my voice in front of legendary Javed Miandad. Javed bhai is not only a legend of Cricket (an ICC Hall of Famer), he is a national hero and pride of Pakistan. I was honored to debut for Pakistan under his captaincy. He is an institution of Cricket and I have learnt a lot from him. I respect him like a father. Through my attorney, I have served a legal notice to Mr PJ Mir to tender unconditional apology and appropriate retraction within 14 days, pertaining to frivolous comments passed about me and Javed bhai. @Javed__Miandad @umairkaz.”

PJ Mir had made the shocking claim while narrating an incident about dressing room fallouts on Samaa TV. Listening to his claim, the other panelists on the channel, former cricketers Shahid Afridi and Mushtaq Ahmed were left stunned. Mir further went on to reveal that Pakistan's dressing room atmosphere had been ruined in 1993 and he advised Miandad to shrug it off and forget about the incident.

“I witnessed rivalry within the team during the 1993 tour of West Indies. I flew from London to Antigua and talked to the then team manager Khaled Mahmud to not give any statement on the dressing room atmosphere. A couple of cricketers even sold their account for 10,000 pounds to the Sun. And inside Rashid Latif slapped Javed Miandad and I saw him sitting outside. I felt bad for him but advised him to forget it,” said Mir on Samaa TV.
