Reports: Ravi Bishnoi to leave Rajasthan, set to represent Gujarat in forthcoming domestic season
The Duleep Trophy will kick start India's 2023-24 domestic season on June 28.
Leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi is all set to play for Gujarat in the upcoming domestic season and it seems that he has moved on from Rajasthan. The Duleep Trophy will kick start the 2023-24 domestic season on June 28, followed by the Deodhar Trophy. Meanwhile, the premier first-class competition, Ranji Trophy, will begin on January 5, 2024.
The 22-year-old leg-spinner on Monday (June 26), took to social media and shared a photo of himself in a Gujarat jersey on his Instagram story with a caption, “New beginning,", including a red heart emoji.
No official announcement has been made regarding Bishnoi's move to Gujarat yet. Notably, officials from the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) have mentioned that 'nothing has been decided yet' as reported by The Sportstar.
Despite being one of the promising bowlers in the domestic circuit at the moment, Bishnoi did not get enough chances in the Ranji Trophy last season. According to reports, the young bowler's decision to leave Rajasthan is due to a lack of opportunities and he is now in Ahmedabad in the pre-season camp of the Gujarat team.
The Jodhpur-born spinner made his T20 debut in the 2018–19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Rajasthan. In 2019, he made his List A debut for Rajasthan in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Meanwhile, he was named in the India A squad for the 2019-20 Deodhar Trophy the same year.
Bishnoi, who made his T20I debut on February 16, 2022, has played 10 games for India in the limited-overs format. Meanwhile, he has only played one One-Day International (ODI) for India, in the bilateral series against South Africa in October 2022.
Notably, the youngster has already proven his worth in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He made his IPL debut for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2020-21 season before being roped in by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2022. He grabbed 16 wickets from 15 matches for LSG in the 2023 edition, at an average of 24.44 and an economy rate of 7.74.
