Team India registered another fabulous victory against Australia in the Delhi Test. The hosts now lead the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2-0. After skipper Rohit Sharma’s knock with the bat and Ashwin and Jadeja’s magic with the ball, the hosts were able to win the first Test in Nagpur quite comfortably.
The second Test is where the Aussies looked to fight back as they played a much-improved innings with the bat and the ball, but it was in the innings where Australia collapsed due to a sensational bowling display by the Indian team. After a 5-month injury layoff, Ravindra Jadeja was again the star of the match as he picked seven wickets in the second innings of the second Test.
On the other hand, Axar Patel has been highly successful with the bat and is the second-highest run-getter of the series behind Rohit Sharma with 158 runs in two matches. The 29-year-old, however, has gotten fewer overs to ball.
Axar Patel also asked the reason for not getting to bowl as much to Jadeja. "Sir, meri to bowling aa nahi rahi hai. Axar ko bowling nahi dena hai isliye aisa ball dal rahe ho kya? (Sir, are you bowling like this so that Axar doesn’t get a chance to bowl?)," Axar was quoted as saying by News 18.
My effort was to bowl stump to stump: Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja has made quite the comeback for the Indian team. After being out of the squad for five months due to injury, the 34-year-old came back and had an instant impact. Jadeja was named the Player of the Match in both matches after his sensational performances.
Jadeja also reflected on what he was targeting while bowling against the Aussies.
"They [the Australians] prefer playing the sweep and reverse sweep. My effort was to bowl stump to stump. If they miss and the ball stays low, then the ball is bound to hit the stumps. That’s what happened today when five balls hit the stumps," he said.
