Ravindra Jadeja has a lot of room for improvement while facing spin: CSK head coach Stephen Fleming

"I know in the past that he's done it for a couple of games, but he hasn't had a big run at it, and it's more the attitude towards it," Stephen Fleming said about Jadeja's struggles against spin.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming analysed Ravindra Jadeja's struggles with the bat against spinners in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Men in Yellow are set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, April 25. This is a must-win tie for both teams, who are languishing at the bottom of the points table.

Jadeja started IPL 2025, batting lower down the order in a finisher's role. However, in the last two matches, he has been promoted in the batting order. He got out cheaply for 7 off 11 against Lucknow Super Giants but scored an unbeaten 53 off 35 against Mumbai Indians. After his promotion in the batting order, Jadeja has been facing a lot of spin, which has not been his strong suit in IPL 2025.

Against pacers in IPL 2025, the Saurashtra all-rounder is averaging 94 and striking at 164.91 for only been dismissed once. However, spinners have had the upper hand on Jadeja, getting him out on four occasions this season. His average and strike rate drop down alarmingly to 12.75 and 87.93, respectively.

Fleming opined that Jadeja has a lot of room for improvement in his batting against the tweakers. The former New Zealand captain hoped that the all-rounder would be able to find an antidote to the problem soon.

“There's a lot of room for improvement in our view and it's a little bit of opportunity. I know in the past that he's done it for a couple of games, but he hasn't had a big run at it, and it's more the attitude towards it. So we're exploring a lot of things at the moment to see whether there are gains within the side with one view on trying to win every game remaining in the IPL but also in the future," said Fleming in the pre-match press conference.

Furthermore, the former New Zealand captain mentioned that the team has planned to experiment with the players in areas they haven’t conquered in the past.

"So we think there are areas that we can explore with our players where they haven't perhaps conquered it in the past and just trying to change some attitudes around it," he added.
