Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered a 25-run win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, April 15, after breaking their own record for the highest team total in the tournament.
The former champions scored a whopping 287/3 in their 20 overs after Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to field first. Travis Head scored a mesmerising 102 runs off 41 balls and the other SRH batters also chipped in to take them to the mammoth total. In reply, half-centuries from du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik helped the hosts reduce the margin of defeat substantially.
Out-of-form Glenn Maxwell, who asked du Plessis and the support staff to drop him from the playing XI, spoke about the positives for RCB after the match. The Australian stalwart lauded the intent shown by the batting order throughout the innings but admitted that the bowling department let the team down with their execution.
"I think the surprising thing is we have been incredibly tight as a group. We had a really good meeting last night before training. Everyone got together and talked about where we are at honestly as a group and we are able to have open and honest discussions amongst batting group, bowling group and then come back together, and I suppose, share ideas how we are going to go forward in this tournament. There were some really good signs tonight that a lot of those conversations are starting to become materialised in results and you've only got to look at the way out batting sort of shaped up tonight and it looked like we showed a lot better intent throughout the innings," Maxwell said at the post-match press conference.

"There wasn't any sort of drop offs or times where guys could sort of, I suppose, change the momentum and hand it back to the opposition. We kept the pressure on, we kept, I suppose, ourselves fighting in the game. But 288 to score is obviously a lot of runs to chase but I felt like we did make some good strides in this game. Obviously, we still let ourselves down a little bit with our execution with the ball and led to probably far too many runs, but there were some really good, solid conversations had last night. Hopefully, over the next few games we can start to see both sides of our game come to life," the Australian all rounder concluded.
