The ongoing fifth Test match between India and England at Dharamsala has seen some breathtaking action. While India has put up an impressive first innings total, one dismissal left former Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar upset.

Gavaskar criticised young Sarfaraz Khan who fell victim to a poor shot, and spoke about advice that he once received from the great Australian batter Don Bradman.

'It wasn’t short enough for that shot' - Sunil Gavaskar

On Day 2, Sarfaraz and debutant Devdutt Padikkal added valuable runs. The duo stitched a 97-run stand before Sarfaraz fell for 56, playing an unnecessary shot off Shoaib Bashir's bowling immediately after the tea break. This dismissal annoyed Gavaskar, who was commentating.

Gavaskar said. “The ball was pitched up; it wasn’t short enough for that shot. Goes for it and pays the price. I mean you are playing the first ball after tea. Give yourself a little sighter. Don Bradman said to me ‘Every ball that I face, even if I am on 200, I think I am on 0.’ And here is [Sarfaraz] is playing such a shot first ball of the session,”

The batting great emphasised the need for a batter to give themselves time at the start of a session, rather than throwing away their wicket carelessly.

India eventually posted 479 in their first innings, securing a 259-run lead. The visitors were then shaken early in their second innings, with Ravichandran Ashwin claiming the wickets of Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope to leave England reeling at 36/3 under the first session of Day 3.
