The Indian Women's team's wait for a head coach is nearing an end, as one of the potential candidates will be considered for the role ahead of the team's assignment against Bangladesh next month. Former cricketers Amol Muzumdar and Tushar Arothe have emerged as the two front-runners to take over the role vacated by Ramesh Powar last year.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led women's team have been without a permanent head coach since the sacking of Ramesh Powar in December last year. While batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar took over the role briefly for the T20 World Cup earlier this year, one of Amol Muzumdar and Tushar Arothe is expected to be named the head coach in the near future.

Amol Muzumdar, who was a household name in the Indian domestic circuit during an illustrious career, served as the interim batting coach of South Africa during the tour of India. Muzumdar also served as the batting coach of Rajasthan Royals for three seasons before switching to another designation.

Meanwhile, Tushar Arothe, a former cricketer from Baroda, is no stranger to the coaching role, having previously served as the head coach of the women's team over two stints. It is understood that former Durham coach Jon Lewis is also in the running after applying for the role. Lewis, who is currently the head coach of the England women's team, is understood to be keen on the role.

Ajit Agarkar favourite to land the role of the chief selector

Elsewhere, former Indian fast bowler Ajit Agarkar, who is currently associated with the Delhi Capitals, is in the running to become the chief selector for the men’s team. Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is looking for possible candidates after the controversial sacking of former chief selector Chetan Sharma. The interview for the chief selector post is likely to be held on July 1.
