Reports suggest that Babar Azam spent 7 lakhs on a fancy outfit from Sabyasachi for his wedding later this year. He's been shopping a lot in India, getting ready for the big day. He bought a traditional sherwani, a popular outfit for grooms in India and Pakistan. This surprised people because he's in the middle of playing in the World Cup. They're wondering if he's thinking more about the wedding than the games. Babar also got expensive jewellery for himself. Pakistani fans are concerned if this is affecting his focus on the tournament.
“Babar Azam’s wedding is scheduled to take place at the end of this year, making the timing of his extravagant purchase all the more unexpected,” a report on One Cricket website said.
Babar under severe scrutiny
Babar Azam has been under severe criticism following his performance in the ODI World Cup. The right-hand batter was expected to light up the tournament with his batting, however, he has failed to do anything similar in the event so far. Not just fans but even former Pakistan players have been critical of Azam's batting and captaincy.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi recently expressed his concerns about Babar Azam's performance, suggesting that the current Pakistan captain doesn't assure match-winning performances akin to Indian stars Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. With Pakistan facing the looming threat of elimination from the 2023 ODI World Cup, having endured four losses in seven matches, Afridi emphasized that while Babar consistently scores runs, he falls short of securing victories for the team.
"Babar Azam scoring runs and Babar Azam scoring runs in a winning cause are two different things. Look at what Virat Kohli and KL Rahul do. They not only score runs but also play crucial innings that lead their teams to victory," Afridi conveyed during an interview with SAMAA TV.
He further highlighted the expectation that Babar's contributions would result in decisive victories for Pakistan. However, citing Babar's recent record in the World Cup, where he scored 216 runs in seven matches at an average of 30.85, Afridi underscored the need for Babar to demonstrate a stronger propensity for leading the team to triumph, particularly in crucial matches where his fifties have not translated into game-changing victories for Pakistan.
