India's recent Test match performances have been really underwhelming as per the otherwise grand standards they have set over the years. A home series whitewash by New Zealand was followed by a 3-1 defeat in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. A lot of internal issues were intertwined as well, adding spice to the existing narrative.

Headed by Ajit Agarkar, the All India Men's Senior Selection Committee assembled at the headquarters of the Board of Control for Cricket in India in Mumbai on Saturday, January 11 for a two-hour-long meet. From the Indian setup, Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir, attended the review. In addition to these, the BCCI President Roger Binny, and Jt. Secretary, Devajit Saikia, were also in attendance.

"There was a detailed discussion on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy performance and what all went wrong and the course-correction required. But do not expect a hurried decision from the new dispensation of BCCI," stated a source privy to developments, as quoted by India Today.

As per the same report, a decision regarding no player in the Indian side to be allowed to cherry-pick between bilateral assignments was finalised. Discussions surrounding senior batters, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, were held as well. According to the recent developments surrounding the meeting, the players wanting to skip any games would have to provide sincere medical reasons.

For the unversed, the board as well as Gambhir has already conveyed information regarding turning up for domestic clashes. This is known to be proof for the BCCI to screen players who are committed to excelling in red-ball cricket. A lot of members in the BCCI believe there lies no need to take a knee-jerk reaction for the future of Kohli and Rohit as far as their Test careers are concerned. However, the two are expected to come good in the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy.
