Reports: Cameron Green to miss first Test against India

It is being reported that ace all-rounder of Australia, Cameron Green will miss the first Test between Australia and India, at the minimum. The West Test (new name for the Perth Test at the Optus Stadium) is set to kickstart the five-match Test series on November 22, 2024.

According to a report by The West Australian, the 25-year-old is currently at the WACA in Perth along with his team, but not in the XI against Queensland, and was sent for scans late the previous week post returning from the white-ball tour of England.

Green was left out of the third and final T20I of the recently concluded series, as well as the second ODI, to manage his workload after having to bowl in all six of Australia's games of their tour to the UK. The fourth ODI saw him getting replaced by Adam Zampa posting his reporting bouts of soreness in the back after the conclusion of the third ODI. 

Although there is no concrete news on the exact status of Green for the remainder of the series against India, it is almost confirmed that Green will play no part in the first game to provide him enough time for recuperation.

It remains to be seen how Australia will manage in terms of the workload on the bowling department. With Green's absence, one would have expected Mitchell Marsh to bowl a few overs in WA's ongoing game. However, in the 55 overs bowled by the home team so far, Marsh has not been provided a single over of bowling by skipper, Sam Whiteman.

In the same vein, it is expected that Nathan Lyon would therefore have an augmented burden on his shoulders. It will be interesting to see how the Australian management balances the load between the three prime pacers of the setup.

According to the same report, Mike Hussey is among those calling for Cameron Bancroft and Whiteman to be in the ascendancy for securing the opening spots for the red-ball challenge against India. Bancroft bagged a golden duck, but Whiteman did not fail as he brought up a stunning century to lead the way for his side to a competitive 465 on the board, with Josh Inglis impressing with a splendid 122.
