A Sydney woman had alleged previously that her date with Sri Lanka cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka turned into an absolute nightmare after which she got feared for life. The player has been charged with four counts of sexual assault and was further denied bail in Sydney court.
However, the matter just has not stopped there as graphic details of her complaint suggested by local media, citing unsealed court documents appears gruesome. The woman has further alleged that she had to undergo brain scan to check for injury as Gunathilaka had choked her during the sexual assault.
The documents of the court cited by public broadcaster ABC claimed that the pair connected on a dating app before meeting at a popular bar near Sydney's Opera House on November 2. However, things went sideways later in the night as the woman was sexually assaulted by the player multiple times. Furthermore, during one of the assaults, the woman saw a condom on the floor, despite of her asking Gunathilaka to wear one.
In any case, the 31-year-old was arrested on Sunday just a few hours after the Lankan Lions were defeated at the hands of England in the T20 World Cup 2022, Super 12 stage. Magistrate Robert Williams had agreed to suppress the details of the allegations and additional elements of the case, issuing a wide-ranging gag order.
However, the suppression order was challenged by the Australian media that later went on to be successful, which reported graphic details of the alleged assault against the woman.
“The complainant tried to remove the accused’s hand by grabbing his wrist, but the accused squeezed tighter around her neck. The complainant was fearing for her life and could not get away from the accused. She continually tried to pull away from the accused, a clear indication that she was not consenting,” police documents allege as quoted by NDTV.
