The hunt for Indian Team’s new head coach is on and amongst many names, Gautam Gambhir has been touted as the frontrunner. The former India cricketer has served as a mentor for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. Currently, he is mentoring his former team Kolkata Knight Riders and the team’s performance is applauded by fans and pundits alike.

There is significant buzz around Gambhir’s potential induction as Team India’s head coach. Current coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure will end just after the T20 World Cup 2024 in June. The new coach will hold reigns from July 1st, 2024 to 31st December 2027. However, there as per a Dainik Jagran report, Gambhir has put a condition that he will only apply when there is assurance of selection from BCCI.

My job is that I want to come back in a winning dressing room: Gambhir

Gambhir, who was also a Member of Parliament from Delhi stepped down from his position ahead of the IPL 2024 to solely commit himself to cricket. It is worth noting that KKR lifted the trophy twice under his leadership. His level-headedness could be gauged from the fact that he relinquished Delhi Capitals captaincy after a poor form and returned the contract money to the franchise owners.

“My job is that I want to come back in a winning dressing room. Fortunately or unfortunately, a winning dressing room is a happy dressing room is a winning dressing room. And, I have all the right to fight for myself, for my teammates and do everything possible within the spirit of the game to try and beat the opposition," Gambhir had said in an interview on Ravi Ashwin’s YouTube Channel.

“I’m not breaking any rules. I want to be as aggressive as I can be. And, what's wrong in that? That's My nature. That's my characteristics. Because for me, winning, it's an obsession," he added.
