The South African team is facing a lot of injuries in their squad going into the Champions Trophy 2025 that will be held in Pakistan and the UAE. The Rainbow Nation has many first-choice players who are suffering from injuries which could hamper their chances in the eight-nation tournament.

There is a long list of injuries in the South African team with the likes of star pacer Anrich Nortje and now young talent Gerald Coetzee being one of them as well. With Nortje being officially ruled out of the upcoming ICC event due to a back injury, Cricket South Africa (CSA) was possibly looking for his replacement in the 24-year-old Gerald Coetzee. However, it turns out that the young T20 World Cup finalist has also been facing some issues of his own while playing in the SA20 for the Joburg Super Kings.

According to ESPNcricinfoGerald Coetzee is having a niggle in his hamstring suffered during the SA20 and so he was also left out of the playing XI against the Pretoria Capitals. Coetzee had already taken a long break from the game after his groin injury during the Test match against Sri Lanka at Durban and it was a great sign for the team when he came back to competitive cricket in the franchise tournament against the Durban's Super Giants. However, with this hamstring injury Coetzee's chances of playing in Asia are getting slimmer.

Injuries affecting South Africa

The list of injured players has been a problem for South Africa. Apart from Coetzee and Nortje, the other pace bowling options have also suffered serious injuries that are keeping them out of the game for a long time. Death bowling specialist Ottniel Baartman, Nandre Burger, and Lizaad Williams are some of them.

Burger has been suffering a lower back stress fracture and Lizaad Williams has been suffering from a knee injury. Though the likes of Lungi Ngidi and Wiaan Mulder are back in action, South Africa is running out of options with the long list of injured players.
