Reports: IPL 2024 schedule likely to be announced in phases due to general elections
IPL 2024 is slated to begin on March 23. The finalisation is yet to be done though.
The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League is expected to begin on March 23, 2024. Despite there being just over a month left for the tournament to begin, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to release its schedule. Since the general election is slated to take place during March and April, the board is taking some time to sort things out and a decision is likely to be announced after the Election Commissioner finalizes the election dates.
Meanwhile, as per reports, the IPL 2024 schedule might be announced in phases. The Governing Council (GC) chaired by Arun Singh Dhumal is finalising the details and the first phase of the league is expected to be announced soon. The officials are in constant touch with the Home Ministry and Election Commission of India to fine-tune the details.
“We have been discussing internally and have more or less figured out the schedule but a final announcement is likely to happen the moment we get clarity and necessary clearances from the Home Ministry and Election Commission of India on the polling schedule,” a source aware of developments told News18.
“The schedule will be announced in phases. Like it happened in 2019. For the first few games of each team, we will release the schedule soon and then we get more clarity on polling schedule and other important dates, we will announce the remainder,” added the source.
In 2019, the election happened in seven phases and BCCI announced the IPL schedule of only the first two weeks. The same thing is likely to be repeated but the officials are keeping tentative dates ready as a final decision will be revealed soon after the election commissioner announces the dates.
Interestingly, the national selectors are slated to attend all the matches of the IPL in order to keep a close eye on players. BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed the development and revealed that a new selector will be appointed soon.
