Ahead of the series against South Africa, youngster Ishan Kishan opted out of the Indian team, citing mental fatigue. The team management excused him but the cricketer is yet to make himself available for selection. In the middle of this, it has been reported, that the stumper-batter was upset with Jitesh Sharma’s selection in T20Is, which can eventually complicate his place in the playing XI.

Meanwhile, Kishan hasn’t turned up for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy. He is currently training with Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya in Reliance Stadium in Baroda and is very likely to make his return during the Indian Premier League.

Currently, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma seem to be the favourite to open for India, with Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav to follow. It leaves no room for Ishan Kishan in the top order, and because of the same, the team management backed Jitesh, who can play blistering knocks lower down the order. As per RevSportz, Kishan didn’t like the move and wanted to be out of the squad.

Kishan continues to remain on sidelines

Meanwhile, Jitesh has done well in the limited opportunities he has received so far. His keeping skills are sharp too as the cricketer hopes to seal his berth for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is slated to begin on June 1. However, for that, Jitesh will need to have an extraordinary season for Punjab Kings in the IPL. He had done well in the last edition of the competition but will have to get better as the likes of KL Rahul and Kishan will challenge him for a spot in the team.

Meanwhile, India head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that Kishan won’t be considered for the remaining three Test matches against England as he is yet to play professional cricket after leaving South Africa.
