Reports: Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of T20 World Cup 2022 with back stress fracture injury
Jasprit Bumrah is set to be out of action for 4-6 months in order to recover from his injury.
The Indian team has suffered a big blow ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 as Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the mega ICC event next month due to a back stress fracture injury. The speedster had missed the first T20I against South Africa at the Greenfield Stadium after complaining of back pain during the practice session.
“Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India's practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first #INDvSA T20I,” BCCI had earlier posted ahead of the first T2OI against South Africa on Twitter.
Although his absence did not prove to be a big deal in the first game, Bumrah will be a huge miss for the T20 World Cup considering his excellent skillset and his match-winning abilities. The 28-year-old missed the Asia Cup 2022 due to injury concerns and is likely to return to cricketing action only after four to six months despite not requiring a surgery.

The likely replacement for Bumrah in the T20 World Cup 2022 squad is expected to be Mohammed Shami who tested negative for Covid-19 recently. Shami hasn’t played a T20I since the previous edition of the T20 World Cup 2022 but was named in the standbys for the tournament. The right-arm seamer has got the experience to step up in pressure times and will lead the pace bowling attack in Australia.
Meanwhile, India will need to bank on their young seam bowlers, Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel to do the job with no Bumrah available. Notably, India will also miss the services of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who had to undergo a knee surgery and was ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022.
