Reports: Jos Buttler to miss Pakistan T20Is due to calf injury

England's white-ball skipper Jos Buttler is set to miss the entire seven-match series against Pakistan according to reports. Buttler, who accompanied the English team on the shores of Pakistan for the first time in his career, revealed that he is unlikely to feature in the series and will be available for the last two matches if fully fit.

Buttler, who is recovering from a calf injury, was scheduled to join the team in the latter stages of the series. But the explosive batter has revealed that his time in the series might not come at all, with the physios still assessing his injury. Veteran all-rounder Moeen Ali will lead the team in Buttler's absence, with the opening batter not taking any chances with his fitness, especially with the T20 World Cup in sight.

"You don’t want to push it too soon, especially with what we have ahead. We have warm-up games in Australia (ahead of the T20 World Cup) so there is no desperate need to get as fit as possible. We’ve just got to take it as it comes. If I was available for the last couple (of games), that would be the best-case scenario at the minute. It might come earlier than that, it might not at all, but the picture will become clearer in a week or so," Buttler was quoted as saying by the press.

The England team landed in the subcontinent nation for the first time in 17 years and were welcomed with a warm reception after pulling out of a two-match series last year due to security concerns. The much-anticipated series will commence on 20th September in Karachi, with the teams engaging in three more matches at the venue before travelling to Lahore for the remaining games.

Although he was unlikely to feature in the series, the English skipper travelled with the squad to solidify his nascent relationship with England’s head coach, Matthew Mott, and his new assistant, David Saker. 

“Just being around the guys is important. Whether fit to play games or not, I felt there would be a lot of value in me being here,” Buttler added.
