The Indian team is going through a bit of a transitional phase with a lot of young players coming up in the scene. The dwindling form of senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has been one of the biggest problems for the BCCI and will have to look at some other players within the squad.
According to the reports from the Hindustan Times with Virat and Rohit failing to make an impact in the last few Test series some domestic players have come under the radar of the selection committee. One of the players according to the report is Vidarbha skipper Karun Nair. The 33-year-old batter played his last international match in 2017 and is known to be the second Indian batter to score a triple century in Test cricket after Virender Sehwag.
Currently, Nair has been in great form during the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he is currently the highest run-scorer with 664 runs which includes five centuries as well. Nair has an average of 664 as well since he has only been dismissed once in the tournament. This is a good sign for Karun Nair who was going through a bit of a dark phase in his career 13 months ago in December 2022 when he sent an emotional tweet asking for another chance.
“Dear cricket, give me one more chance," Nair tweeted on X(formerly known as Twitter) in December 2022.
Recently the right-handed batter scored a brilliant century against Rajasthan by taking his team through to the semi-finals which they will be playing against Maharashtra on the 16th of January and reflected on the earlier tweet during an interview with National Daily.
“It was an emotional moment when I put that tweet,” The Vidarbha skipper said.
Karun Nair might not have been active in international cricket after 2017 even after his historic triple century against England but still has great numbers in domestic cricket. He has an average of 48.64 in first-class cricket and 40.17 in List-A cricket.
