It has been reported that the 1983 World Cup winner Roger Binny will be succeeding Sourav Ganguly as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Binny is expected to replace Ganguly after the cricket board's AGM (Annual General Meeting) on October 18.
The reason why Ganguly will not be reappointed as the BCCI chief is reportedly because of receiving a thumbs down from the board officials for his non-performance. However, a latest report in Cricbuzz states that there are a few things that have not gone down well with the incumbent BCCI chief.
Why will Sourav Ganguly not be re-appointed as the BCCI chief?
According to Cricbuzz, "At informal meetings before the nomination day, he was told that his performance did not live up to the expectations although the official reason is that there is no precedent of a president holding two full terms. That he ambushes BCCI sponsors by endorsing rival brands is often discussed among the members. It was also raised at different meetings in the past. All this has not exactly worked in his favour. N Srinivasan, who is like a mentor to the current BCCI team, made a whistle-stop journey to Mumbai leaving the city in the early hours after arriving late Monday night and it is said he was one of the vocal critics of the outgoing BCCI president."
Ganguly had pipped Brijesh Patel in October 2019 to become the BCCI chief and with the national cricket board not interested in reappointing him for another term and parting ways with the former India skipper, it now remains to be seen whether the 50-year-old will be a part of the race to be the next ICC Chairman or not.
The election for the prestigious post is scheduled for November. The next ICC chairperson will be elected for a term of almost two years starting from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2024.
It now remains to be seen what will be Ganguly's future endeavours once he officially steps down from his current post.
