The Pakistan Cricket Board is very likely to send a team psychologist to India during the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5. Since the Babar Azam-led side doesn’t have enough experience in playing in Indian conditions, thus the decision might get finalized in the upcoming weeks.
Notably, the Men in Green will be under a lot of pressure in the upcoming tournament. There will be some extra pressure that will be created by the media and the fans in attendance. Every move of theirs will have a significant impact and hence, PCB are convinced to send a psychologist to keep the dressing room calm.
“Therefore, serious consideration is being given to appointing a psychologist. He will accompany the squad to the neighbouring country and help boost the players’ morale during crucial moments, protecting them from any fears,” a report in Cricket Pakistan mentioned.
PCB to finalise their World Cup stance soon
Previously, Pakistan have cleared that the team will not be participating in the upcoming ODI World Cup if they don’t get the right to host the Asia Cup. However, even though the Asia Cup dilemma was solved, Pakistan are yet to confirm their stance regarding the mega tournament in India. Next up, PCB will be sending a security team to India soon to analyse the situation and then the board will take a decision.
“PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has received positive signals through channels. Once security clearance is obtained, the team will travel across the border. There is also a possibility of sending a delegation to assess the current situation,” the report further added.
Meanwhile, Pakistan cricketers are expected to get a substantial pay rise to their central contract ahead of the ODI World Cup. When it comes to the team selection for the tournament, PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf will meet Babar Azam, after the latter returns from Lanka Premier League to decide the roadmap for the World Cup.
