According to the latest report, the star Australian pacers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc will be missing the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) season. Cummins struggled for wickets with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with just seven wickets from five games during the 2022 edition of the tournament. Starc was part of KKR's squad during the 2018 season but missed the entire tournament due to an injury.
IPL teams need to submit the list of retained players before Tuesday (November 15) and a few teams have already started doing business ahead of the upcoming mini-auction scheduled on December 23 in Kochi. KKR, two-time IPL champions, finished the 2022 season in the seventh position in the league table with just six wins from 14 group-stage matches.
Pat Cummins to miss the IPL 2023 to focus on the Ashes
The Kolkata-based franchise have already started preparation for the 2023 season with some big changes to their squad. They traded in Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz from champions Gujarat Titans and also signed star Indian bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur from Delhi Capitals. KKR have now spent INR 10.75 crore on signing these three big players and fans are wondering how they will do business in the mini-auction as the team definitely needs reinforcements after their poor performances in the IPL 2022 season.
But now, according to Revsportz, Pat Cummins will not take part in the IPL 2023 season to focus on the Ashes 2023. Australia captain cost KRR INR 7.25 crore in the IPL 2022 mega-auction and now, their purse for the mini-auction will be boosted. The same report also stated that Starc will also miss the IPL 2023 season, who last played the tournament in 2015 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
However, the star English spinner Adil Rashid, who took four wickets in the T20 World Cup 2022, is set to feature in the IPL 2023 season and will be available for the mini-auction.
