There has been a lot of turbulence in the state of affairs in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the last few days. The former interim chairman, Najam Sethi, has been replaced by the newly appointed PCB chief, Zaka Ashraf. As per reports, the 70-year-old Ashraf is on the lookout for a new chief selector as Haroon Rashid's days in the said position are numbered.

In the same light, Ashraf has reportedly had an interaction with former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Hafeez, who has been offered the role of chief selector. The report states that the former all-rounder didn't turn down the offer but bought himself some time to come to a decision. Hafeez, who recently began his career as a cricket analyst, could be a good fit for the role as he has the experience of playing with most of the players in the current Pakistan circuit. He would have seen many of the players from close quarters, and that could help him take correct calls.

During the meeting, Hafeez congratulated Ashraf for becoming the new head of PCB.

"Zaka Ashraf is a good administrator. I honestly respect him a lot. I will consider a good offer to serve Pakistan cricket," the former all-rounder was quoted as saying by The News International.

Younis Khan and Shoaib Akhtar might get important positions in PCB

As per the report, former Pakistani batter Younis Khan and fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar could be offered important roles in the PCB. Khan has the experience of playing 118 Tests, 265 ODIs, and 25 T20Is for Pakistan. Akhtar, who was known for his sheer pace, featured in 46 Tests, 163 ODIs, and 15 T20Is for Pakistan.

Alongside these two stalwarts, two other former Pakistani cricketers, Mohsin Hassan Khan, and Saleem Yousuf, could also take important positions in the country's cricket governing body.

Pakistan's next assignment is a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The first Test begins on July 16 in Galle. Babar Azam's men will play a two-day practice match prior to this encounter.
