India's love affair with injuries to key players was prolonged after skipper Rohit Sharma was reportedly ruled out of the second Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka. The Indian skipper, who missed the first Test owing to a thumb injury, has been ruled out of the series decider, according to reports by Cricbuzz. He is likely to take part in India's white-ball series against Sri Lanka next month.

Rohit Sharma sustained a thumb injury while attempting a catch during the recently concluded ODI series against Bangladesh. He sustained the injury while fielding in the first innings of the second ODI and had to be rushed to a hospital for scans. Things worsened for the Indian opener after he came out to bat despite his injury.

He was ruled out of the third and final ODI of the series and even missed the Test series opener in Chattogram. Following India's victory in the first Test, news emerged from the Indian camp that the management wasn't going to take a risk with the skipper's thumb, which is still stiff and hasn't recovered completely. The management feels that Rohit is prepared to bat in the second Test, but he can further aggravate his injury while fielding.

His absence means that Shubman Gill will retain his place for the second Test after registering a maiden ton in the longest format of the game in Chattogram. He will be hoping for another prolific outing in the second Test, stating a strong case for his selection in the red-ball side.
