Reports: Sanju Samson fans to stage protest against BCCI at Thiruvananthapuram Stadium
Samson has not been included in India's T20 World Cup squad.
The BCCI recently named India's 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, withno place for Sanju Samson. The netizens were furious to see Samson missing out from the squad as they felt he deserved a place in both Asia Cup 2022 and the T20 World Cup 2022.
While many experts have been speaking of the extraordinary talent that Samson possesses, former selector MSK Prasad felt that Deepak Hooda gives the side an all-round option while Shreyas Iyer has done enough to be in the reserves as a batter. He added that Samson would have been picked in the Asia Cup squad if he was in the plans for the T20 World Cup.
"The question is, Sanju Samson, in place of who? Deepak Hooda gives you that extra bowling option. He can bat anywhere like Sanju, and Shreyas has done well in the home series against Sri Lanka and then in the West Indies. If the team management wanted to pick Sanju, they would have given him an opportunity in the Asia Cup or the upcoming home series against South Africa and Australia. If he is not picked, one knows he is not in the scheme of things," MSK Prasad told Indian Express.
Local Fans to wear T shirts with pictures of Sanju Samson on it
Meanwhile, as per recent reports, Kerala locals have planned to come wearing T-Shirts with Samson’s picture on it and protest against the BCCI during the India vs South Africa match at the Greenfield Stadium on September 28. Samson has had two consistent seasons over 40cric0 runs as the skipper of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but has failed to maintain the same level of consistency in international cricket.
He did show a lot of positive signs in the recent ODIs against West Indies and Zimbabwe, where he played some impactful innings. However, with just one fifty in the T20I format, Samson never had the international numbers to back him while KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have been given a long rope on basis of their slightly better numbers.
