Reports: Sanju Samson ruled out of cricket for at least five-six weeks
The wicketkeeper-batter had an underwhelming T20I series with the bat against England.
According to recent developments, Sanju Samson is set to be out of cricketing action for at least five to six weeks due to a blow he sustained to his right index finger during the fifth T20I of the series between India and England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After smashing the very first delivery of the game for a maximum, Samson was struck flush on his right glove by a rearing Jofra Archer delivery just two deliveries later.
As per reports, Samson's finger has been fractured. It is expected for him to miss out on the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy and make a comeback to competitive cricket directly during the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League.
"Samson has fractured his right index finger. It will take him five to six weeks before he can resume proper nets. So, there is no chance of him playing the Ranji Trophy quarter-final for Kerala (vs Jammu & Kashmir) in Pune from February 8-12. In all likelihood, his comeback will happen in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals," stated a BCCI source, as quoted by India TV.
The same report further stated that the swelling increased with time, despite Samson getting dismissed after four deliveries post the incident. The wicketkeeper-batter did not come out in the second innings, and was replaced by Dhruv Jurel who assumed the wicket-keeping duties.

Notably, the mode of dismissal via which Samson returned back was the same as that in the previous four games of the series - getting rushed up by the short ball, only to swivel it straight into the hands of the deep square leg fence. Samson had a forgettable series with the bat - scoring only 51 runs in five innings. He will be keen on starting afresh while leading the Royals during IPL 2025. India don't play a T20I for at least six months from now, which ensures that Samson does not miss any international games.
