Quetta Gladiators’ skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed was heard using abusive language for his teammate Aimal Khan when the medium-arm pacer was hit by a boundary by Peshawar Zalmi’s batter Mohammad Haris during the fourth over of Zalmi's innings in the PSL exhibition match played on February 5 in Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti Cricket Stadium in Quetta. Haris went on to score a half-century.
The incident has come to light after Cricketpakistan.com.pk reported the same. The former-Pakistan skipper was also fined by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for using inappropriate language during the National T20 Cup 2022 match against Balochistan, where the wicketkeeper-batter used abusive language after getting dismissed. He was charged by PCB under Article 2.3 which reads as, "Use of audible obscenity."
In 2021, Lahore Qalandars coach Aaqib Javed in an interview to Cricket Pakistan had mentioned that he had complained about the same to umpire Aleem Dar.
"I told Aleem Dar about how Sarfaraz has been treating Quetta’s bowlers from behind the stumps. I don’t know how they endure these abuses and insults. No code of conduct applies to him for abusing players in the open?," told Aaqib to Cricket Pakistan.
Despite Haris’ innings on Sunday, Peshawar fell short of Quetta’s score by three runs. Batting first, Quetta Gladiators scored 184 for 5 in their 20 overs powered by the innings of 94 runs off 50 deliveries by Iftikhar Ahmed who smashed Peshawar’s fast bowler Wahab Riaz for six consecutive sixes in the last over of the innings taking his team beyond 180.
Despite conceding six sixes, Riaz turned out to be the most successful bowler for Peshawar and also the most expensive bowler of the match as he took three wickets in his spell of fours overs and conceded 47 runs.
Chasing the total, Haris with the skipper Babar Azam gave a flying start to the Zalmi adding 65 runs for the first wicket in 6.4 overs. But after that, Quetta bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals and won the match for the hosts.
Meanwhile, the PSL is slated to start from February 13. The first match of the event will be played between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars in Multan.
