Shakib Al Hasan and Sheikh Hasina accused in Rubel’s death during Bangladesh protest
Actor and politician Ferdous Ahmed is also named as the 55th accused.
Things are turning disastrous for the former Bangladesh captain, Shakib Al Hasan, as the cricketer is accused in the murder case of Rubel, who was killed on August 7 during the Bangladesh protests. The student's protest against the government over unfair job allotments stirred the nation and that led to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fleeing the country. Rubel was reportedly involved in the rallies against the government and a mishap followed.

Apart from Shakib, former PM Hasina is also one of the accused. It is worth noting that, Shakib was part of Hasina’s Awami League political party, and was a former MP in her government. Moreover, as per ESPNcricinfo's report on the case filed by Rafiqul Islam, father of deceased Rubel, around 400-500 other people were also accused.
The incident has drawn focus to Bangladesh’s entertainment industry as actor and politician Ferdous Ahmed is also named as the 55th accused. Notably, Ferdous also held an MP’s position in the Awami League Political Party. For the unversed, over 450 people were killed during the Bangladesh riots against Hasina’s government, as she fled the country on August 5.
Regarding cricketing developments, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President, Nazmul Hassan, an ally of Hasina, stepped down from the position. Former Bangladesh Skipper, Faruque Ahmed, dethroned him to become the new President of BCB. Nazmul and Hasina’s political connections could be revealed as the former served as Sports Minister under her for over 15 years.
