Shubman Gill is one of the fittest cricketers in world cricket. His sculpted physique is the epitome of the hard work he puts in behind the scenes. The right-handed batter is expected to play a huge role for India in upcoming events like the Asia Cup and the 50-over World Cup.
Ahead of the Asia Cup, which begins on August 30, the Indian players went through the demanding Yo-Yo test to assess their physical condition. As per reports, no other Indian cricketer could score more than Shubman's record of 18.7 in the test.
It is a great sign that the talented cricketer is also putting in the hard yards off the field to keep himself ready for the rigours of the sport. Scoring heaps of runs or taking plenty of wickets isn't the only important thing in modern-day cricket as players are giving great importance to fitness.
BCCI issues warning to players after Virat Kohli shares Yo-Yo score on social media
Virat Kohli deserves a lot of credit for emphasising fitness in the team. After he took over captaincy from the iconic MS Dhoni, the Yo-Yo test was introduced under Kohli's reign as an mandatory criterion for players to make it to the Indian squad. Many top Indian cricketers did not pass the Yo-Yo test and therefore missed out on being selected.
Meanwhile, the legendary cricketer recently posted a picture of himself on social media where he wrote that he had passed the Yo-Yo test with a score of 17.2. “The happiness of finishing the Yo Yo test between the dreaded cones. 17.2 done," he wrote in the caption.
Following this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a verbal warning to the Indian team players, advising them to not reveal confidential information such as Yo-Yo test scores, which would lead to a breach of contract. Meanwhile, India begin their Asia Cup campaign with the much-awaited clash against Pakistan on September 2.
