Amid the disastrous beginning of their Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) campaign, Mumbai Indians (MI) have got some positive news as their star batter Suryakumar Yadav has been declared fit to participate in the ongoing season. Notably, the swashbuckling batter who has been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians setup for a number of years, suffered a grade II tear in his ankle during the third T20I against South Africa in December 2023.

Following that he had to undergo a hernia operation in London and began rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The 33-year-old was subsequently ruled out of the first few games of the season with NCA not providing him fitness clearness. However, he’s been finally cleared for selection for the five-time champions and will be reportedly available to play Mumbai’s next game against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday, April 07 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

“He is fit now. The NCA made him play a few practice games and he looked good. He can join the Mumbai Indians team. We wanted to be sure that when Surya goes back to MI, he is 100 percent fit and ready to play games. He wasn’t feeling 100% during his first fitness Test before the IPL, so we waited to see if there was any pain while he was batting,” a source in the BCCI confirmed to IndianExpress.

Suryakumar scored a hundred in his last international innings

Meanwhile, Suryakumar also posted an image of him playing a practice game at the NCA on his Instagram story. Notably, the Mumbai-born batter is the current number one ranked batter in T20Is with 861 ratings to his name and is an important member of the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
