Reports: Suryakumar Yadav likely to lead team India in T20I series against Ireland

In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya has done a terrific job as the skipper of the Indian team in the shortest format of the game. The cricketer is yet to lose a series in international cricket and thus, he is shortlisted as one of the future leaders of India. Thus, the cricketer was expected to lead the Men in Blue against Ireland in the upcoming three-match T20I series but as per reports, the selectors are likely to give him some rest ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup.

The all-rounder has suffered a lot with back issues in the last couple of years. Thus, the think tank doesn’t want him to take any sort of risk as the team cannot afford his injury at the moment. Thus, according to The Times of India, Suryakumar Yadav, who acted as Hardik’s deputy is very likely to lead the team in the T20I series against Ireland.

The flamboyant batter recently led Mumbai Indians in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. He has previously taken charge of his team in List A cricket and thus, he has the much-needed experience in his kitty. Meanwhile, he is expected to travel with an inexperienced side as the selectors don’t want to risk any cricketer who is in the scheme of things for the upcoming World Cup in India.

On the other hand, Rinku Singh might earn his debut call in the series against Ireland. He is part of India’s squad that will travel for the upcoming Asian games and ahead of that, the cricketer may play a couple of games in the United Kingdom.
