Travis Head has reportedly travelled to India to join the Australian team who are taking part in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup. He would not be available for the side's fourth game against Pakistan but could be fully fit for the subsequent match against Netherlands in Delhi on October 25.

The 29-year-old batter sustained a hand injury while batting in the fourth ODI against South Africa on September 15. His glove was struck by Gerald Coetzee’s delivery and following scans revealed a fracture in a joint on his left hand. Despite the injury, the southpaw managed to retain his place in the ODI squad. Initially, it was said that he needed more time to recover and was likely to miss half of the group-stage matches.

Head has already returned to batting in the nets for the first time since suffering the injury. He recently gave an update about his fitness, stating he has made massive progress.

“It's coming along well, and probably better than we hoped. When we decided not to go with surgery, which would have meant a 10-week recovery, we were told it would be minimum six weeks with the splint before we could look at playing again," Head told cricket.com.au.

Australia aims for first win in ODI World Cup 2023

Australia have made a disappointing start in the ongoing ODI World Cup, having lost to India and South Africa, respectively. Pat Cummins and Co. are eyeing their first win in the tournament as they locked horns against Sri Lanka on October 15 in Lucknow.

Speaking about the clash, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Adam Zampa claimed a four-wicket haul as Australia restricted Kusal Mendis and Co. to 209 runs in 43.3 overs. Apart from him, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc picked up two wickets for the side. Meanwhile, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera scored 61 and 78 runs, respectively for Sri Lanka.
