The National Cricket Academy (NCA) might be on the lookout for a new head administrator soon, as the current chief VVS Laxman has reportedly refused for renewal of his original term, which ends later in 2024. Earlier, Laxman had also opted not to apply for the Indian men's senior team's head coach post the end of Rahul Dravid's tenure. As a result, there will be a significant recalibration in India's ecosystem, as the hunt for head coach is in active stages.
The Telegraph, on Monday, June 24 reported that Laxman wishes to prioritize his family commitments after a hectic stint with the NCA since his appointment in 2021. It was further reported that the 49-year-old will take commentator's mic in hand for a short time, before finally taking a break from the sport.
However, Laxman has a scheduled assignment with the Men in Blue soon for the Zimbabwe tour, where the former cricketer is set to coach the Indian team. Notably, latest reports from Indian Express have suggested that Shubman Gill will be captaining the national team for the first time, while standout performers from the IPL 2024 are getting their maiden international call-up, which includes the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Riyan Parag.

While it is now common knowledge that Gautam Gambhir or WV Raman are key contenders for the head coach position, the former is said to have demanded complete freedom in choosing his own set of support staff. If Gambhir is assigned the head coach duties, numerous reforms are likely to happen within the organization, to best suit his style of coaching and derive the best possible results for the Men in Blue.
New head coach only from Sri Lanka tour
The Sri Lankan tour, beginning July 26, will be the first tour for the fresh face, as Laxman has been designated for the Zimbabwean assignment. The tour to the African nation will see India squaring off in five T20Is before finally moving to a multi-format series in the island nation.
