Rishabh Pant accident: Uttarakhand Police explain sequence of horrific car crash
Rishabh Pant hit the railings of the divider on the Delhi-Haridwar highway at around 5:30 am on Friday.
Team India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant on early Friday morning, survived a freak accident and is cleared of serious injuries which occurred near Roorkee in Uttarakhand. The local police spoke to the media and explained the series of events that led to the unfortunate incident.
The 25-year-old was alone in his car when he hit the railings of the divider on the Delhi-Haridwar highway. The incident occurred at around 5:30 am and it is understood that the cricketer suffered injuries to his head, back, and leg. Furthermore, he was immediately taken to a hospital in Roorkee and has now been shifted to Dehradun.
"Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant's car met with an accident at around 5:30 am. The incident took place at Mohammedpur Jat near Roorkee. According to what Pant said, he dozed off while driving and as a result the car collided with the divider and caught fire. He was moved to the Roorkee hospital from where he has now been shifted to Dehradun,” Director General of Uttarakhand Police, Ashok Kumar told the media while confirming the details.
Heard loud sound, nearby villagers pulled him out of the car: Police
The car driven by Pant is said to have turned a few times before turning into a ball of fire and the charred vehicle has been taken away for further investigation into whether the airbags had opened or not. Police further added that the villagers and local cops heard the ‘loud sound’ of the accident upon which they rushed to help the cricketer.
"Hearing a loud sound of the accident, nearby villagers along with the local cops, rushed to the spot and pulled him out of the car. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to a major hospital in Dehradun," said Swapn Kishor Singh, superintendent of police, Haridwar (rural).
Pant recently starred in the series win in the recently concluded two Test matches against Bangladesh. The southpaw registered 46 runs in the first Test and 93 runs and nine runs in the second Test in Dhaka.
