'Rohit, Kohli, and Jadeja set an example for youngsters' - VVS Laxman acknowledges contributions of senior trio after T20I retirements

NCA chief and India's interim head coach - VVS Laxman praised Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja for their contributions to Indian cricket.

The date - June 29, 2024, will be etched in the memories of Indian cricket fans for eternity as the Men in Blue managed to end an 11-year-long wait for an ICC title. Led by Rohit Sharma, the Asian giants got the better of South Africa in the summit clash to win the coveted T20 World Cup title.

However, the delirious fans soon had to contend with one bombshell after the other as the iconic duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit announced their retirements from T20Is. On the following day, Ravindra Jadeja also bid farewell to the shortest format of the game.

VVS Laxman, who is the NCA (National Cricket Academy), heaped praise on the legendary troika, thanking them for their immense contributions to the development of the Indian Cricket Team.

"My message to these three stalwarts of the game -- Virat, Rohit, and I consider Ravindra Jadeja also an extremely talented player who has contributed immensely to the development of the Indian cricket team. A big congratulations. Thank you for all the contribution they have given the great game," Laxman said in a video posted by the BCCI on their social media.

Laxman stated that the trio set an example for the younger generation to follow. The former India and Hyderabad cricketer hoped that they would continue delivering in the ODI and Test arenas.

"They set an example for the youngsters to follow. The passion and the pride with which they played the game is exemplary. While they have retired from this format, I am sure that they will continue to prepare the way they did in their careers. A big congratulations for their excellent T20 career. I am sure they are going to continue to contribute in the longer version of the game."

Laxman is currently serving as the interim head coach of the Indian team, which is playing a five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. After three games, the Men in Blue are leading 2-1. The fourth T20I is scheduled to take place at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday, July 13.
