Rohit Sharma is selling himself short, it is a concurrent theme that is happening repeatedly: Aakash Chopra
Mumbai Indians are currently placed eighth in the IPL Points Table.
Just like the previous year, Mumbai Indians are once again stuttering in the Indian Premier League as the five-time champions are currently eighth on the IPL Points Table. Their star batters in the form of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Tim David are yet to come to the party while it’s pretty much evident that the team is definitely missing the service of Jasprit Bumrah. Jofra Archer, who was expected to take care of the things in his absence, hasn’t played a lot of matches in the ongoing season due to workload and injury management.
Thus, MI have been poor on the field so far and needs a massive upgrade in order to qualify for the playoffs. Notably, in their last match against the defending champions Gujarat Titans, Mumbai’s batting unit once again failed to deliver as the visiting team at the Narendra Modi Stadium lost the match by 55 runs. Skipper Rohit Sharma managed to score only two runs in eight deliveries.
Thereafter, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra pointed out that the 35-year-old is getting out in a similar fashion in every match and that needs to change. During the MI's clash with GT, skipper Rohit Sharma looked out of colour as the batter could not get off to a good start and threw away his wicket to the opponent skipper.
MI skipper Rohit Sharma getting out in trying to do something different repeatedly
“Hardik Pandya came and dismissed his opposite number. Rohit Sharma was trying to do something different and got out. Rohit Sharma is selling himself short. It is a concurrent theme that is happening repeatedly,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“We say that he can score a lot of runs but gets out. When he gets out like that while trying to make room, you feel he is a much better player than that. Ishan Kishan had never been dismissed by Rashid Khan but he got out to him this time. Rashid dismissed Tilak Varma as well,” the commentator further added.
Meanwhile, Rohit was highly disappointed with the performance of MI’s batting unit against GT in the ongoing IPL 2023. In the post-match presentation, the Mumbai-born cricketer mentioned that they need to step up their game and also mentioned that his batting unit has backed themselves to gun down big scores, but it has not been coming off just yet.
