After a heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup final in 2023, Rohit Sharma gave his all to secure the T20 World Cup trophy in 2024. He led from the front, playing an aggressive brand of cricket, which eventually helped India lift its fourth world championships - two each in ODI and T20I format. After the game, the Indian skipper was in tears and later, was spotted eating a speck of soil in Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Revealing the reason, Rohit stated that it was nothing that he thought of previously but came naturally to him. He added that the pitch helped India win the T20 World Cup and for the same reason, he will remember the Barbados ground for the rest of his life. The 37-year-old talked about having a piece of it with him and mentioned that it was a dream come true moment for him.

“Nothing was scripted; it was all coming instinctively. I was feeling the moment...because that pitch gave us this (T20 World Cup), we played on that particular pitch and we won the game on that particular ground, I will remember that ground and that pitch forever in my life. So I wanted to have a piece of it with me. Those moments are very, very special; and the place where all our dreams came true, I wanted something of it. That was the feeling behind it,” said Rohit in a video released by BCCI.

Surreal feeling still hasn’t sunk in: Rohit Sharma

Rohit became the third Indian captain after Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni to win a World Cup for India. He was desperate to win a major trophy for the national team and finally got the job done on June 29. Reflecting upon that, Rohit stated that it was a surreal feeling and added that it hasn’t sunk in yet.

“The feeling actually is surreal. I would say it still hasn't sunk in totally. It's been a great moment, right from when the game got over till now. It feels like a dream… We had dreamt about it, and worked hard as a unit for such a long period of time. To see this now with us, we feel quite relieved as well because when you work hard for something and you eventually get it in the end, it feels really really nice,” the 37-year-old added.
