Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is currently going through a lean patch. He was recently dismissed for a duck in two consecutive matches. So far, the 36-year-old has managed to score only 184 runs in ten matches as Mumbai are once again struggling to get into the top four of the ongoing IPL 2023.
Notably, in their last game against Chennai Super Kings, Rohit came out to bat at number three but even that change didn’t work well as Deepak Chahar sent him back to the pavilion in the third over of the match itself. The Mumbai-born cricketer tried to play a scoop but failed to time it as Ravindra Jadeja picked up an easy catch in the end. With that, Rohit registered his third duck of the current season.
Meanwhile, talking about Rohit’s performance in the game against CSK at Chepauk, former India batter Krishnamachari Srikkanth took a swipe at him during commentary, and called him ‘No hit Sharma’. The 63-year-old went on to add that he wouldn’t have even played him in the XI if he was the skipper of the five-time champions.
“Not Hit Sharma". Rohit Sharma should change his name to ‘NO HIT SHARMA’, I will not even play him in XI if I was Captain of MI,” Srikkanth commented.
CSK defeat MI by six wickets
Courtesy of some poor batting from the experienced campaigners, Mumbai Indians could post only 139 runs on board after 20 overs. Nehal Wadhera, who’s in excellent form in the ongoing season, once again played a brilliant innings as his 64 runs off 51 deliveries eventually helped MI post a decent total on board.
With the ball, Matheesha Pathirana picked up three wickets while Chahar and Tushar Deshpande picked up two wickets each. The two-wicket haul helped Tushar as he is currently has a prized possession in the form of the IPL Purple Cap.
Meanwhile, when it came to the chase, Devon Conway (44 runs off 42 deliveries) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (30 runs off 16 deliveries) once again gave a perfect start. Later on, Shivam Dube played a sensational cameo of 26* runs off 18 deliveries as CSK won the match by six wickets.
