Star Indian cricketers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have experienced a significant drop in the latest ICC Test Rankings following their disappointing performances in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. On the other hand, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal, have witnessed notable gains.

The match at MA Chidambaram Stadium saw both Kohli and Sharma struggle to make an impact with the bat. The Indian skipper, managed only single-digit scores in both innings, falling prey to Hasan Mahmud's bowling in the first innings. Kohli's performance was equally disappointing, with a mere six runs in the first innings and a 17-run stay in the second. These performances resulted in both players sliding five places each in the rankings, with Sharma now at 10th and Kohli at 12th.

Afghanistan's Rahmanullah Gurbaz enters ODI top ten rankings for first time

Despite the setbacks for the veterans, India registered a dominating 280-run victory in the Test match, largely due to the impressive performances from Jaiswal and Pant. Jaiswal's impressive 56 off 118 balls in challenging conditions proved crucial in steadying India's first innings during a top-order collapse. This knock propelled him to the fifth spot in the Test rankings.

Meanwhile, Pant made an immediate impact after returning to Test cricket after a gap of two years. His first-innings score of 39 was valuable, but it was his sixth Test century in the second innings that was most talked about.

The rankings update also saw movements in other formats, with Afghanistan's Rahmanullah Gurbaz entering the ODI top ten for the first time, following his crucial role in their historic series win against South Africa. Australia's Travis Head also made significant progress, jumping seven spots after a brilliant century against England.
