Former India head coach Ravi Shastri lauded Rohit Sharma and mentioned that he will go down as one of the best captains ever alongside MS Dhoni. Under Sharma’s leadership, India recently won the T20 World Cup 2024 and played in the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) and ODI World Cup in 2023. He helped Mumbai Indians win five IPL trophies and will play a vital role for the national team in the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025 and also in the ongoing WTC cycle.

Shastri also called Rohit a brilliant tactician. The 37-year-old adopted an aggressive approach in white-ball cricket, which has brought results for team India in the recent past. He was brilliant with his strategies in the T20 World Cup 2024 as well as when India defended 30 runs in five overs in the finals against South Africa. Shastri believes that Rohit is at par with Dhoni in terms of tactics and hailed him for the same.

“As a tactician, let's not forget that he's been an outstanding guy. He'll go down as one of the best captains ever alongside Dhoni. If you ask me who's better, I'd say both are on par when it comes to tactics in the white-ball game. I can't pay a bigger compliment to Rohit than that because you know what MS has done and the titles he has won,” Shastri said on the ICC Review.

I thought tactically he was just outstanding in this year's World Cup: Shastri

Bringing Jasprit Bumrah back at the correct time helped India win the T20 World Cup in Barbados. Rohit also used Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel well in the final and as per Shastri, it eventually helped India win the tournament.

“Rohit is not far behind and I thought tactically he was just outstanding in this year's (T20) World Cup. Just the calmness, the ability to get a (Jasprit) Bumrah or a (Hardik) Pandya, or even an Axar Patel at just the right time when needed was great to see,” he added.
