Rosemary Mair ruled out of remaining England ODI series citing back injury

The New Zealand women's cricket team has been hit with a major setback as seamer Rosemary Mair has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against the England women's cricket team due to a back injury. Fellow seamer Molly Penfold has been called up as her replacement for the remainder of the series.

Mair was making a comeback to the New Zealand national side and featured in all five T20Is against England, picking up four wickets at an economy rate of 7.56. However, she felt pain in her back while training ahead of the first ODI and was forced to miss that game.

We're all gutted for Rosemary: Ben Sawyer 

The 25-year-old traveled with the team to Hamilton for the second ODI, but when she was unable to train on Wednesday, the difficult decision was made to rule her out of the rest of the series.

"We're all gutted for Rosemary as she has been a key member of the squad throughout the series against England. We have a big winter of cricket ahead with tours to England and Australia before the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, so we want to be cautious and give Rosemary ample time to recover and be ready to go again when we depart for England." said head coach Ben Sawyer as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

The setback for Mair comes at an inopportune time for the Kiwis, as England have taken a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, which is part of the ICC Women's Championship. The visitors won the second ODI by a resounding 56 runs after winning the five-match T20I series 4-1.

England's dominance in the white-ball formats has been on full display in New Zealand, and they will be looking to complete a clean sweep when the final ODI takes place on April 7th in Hamilton. The hosts, on the other hand, will be hoping for a strong performance to reclaim their lost pride and gain crucial ICC Women's Championship points.

In the second ODI Tammy Beaumont scored a brilliant 81 runs knock for which she was awarded the Player of the Match to guide the visitors to a commanding total of 252 runs. Thanks to Nat Sciver-Brunt's brilliant spell as she picked up three wickets and helped the team to bundle out England for 196 runs with five overs remaining.
