The 26th clash of the ongoing IPL 2023 between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants saw RR skipper lose his wicket in a terrible manner to put Rajasthan Royals under further pressure.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Royals, who were looking comfortable chasing a rather accessible target of 155, lost their skipper Sanju Samson to a terrible miscommunication that resulted in the skipper running himself out. It happened in the 13th over of the game when Jos Buttler directed a Ravi Bishnoi delivery towards short fine leg where it was quickly picked up by Amit Mishra.
However, Buttler, who seemed to be struggling to accelerate his innings, immediately ran in an attempt to sneak a single but unfortunately found himself stranded in the middle as Sanju Samson had initially denied to run for the single. But, seeing the set Buttler in trouble, Samson found it only fit to sacrifice his wicket in order to keep the runs flowing off Buttler's willow.
As things eventually unfolded, Samson dragged himself to the striker's end and also put in a diving effort but ultimately failed to make it on time as keeper Pooran had dislodged the bails before Samson could complete the run to send the skipper packing. Samson's short stay at the crease lasted just four deliveries where he could only manage to score two runs.
Buttler departs after scoring at sub-100 strike rate
Untrue to his character, Jos Buttler faced 41 deliveries in his innings against LSG but failed to notch up a strike rate of even 100.
Riding on four fours and one six, Buttler only managed to score 40 runs at a miserable strike rate of 97.56. What was even more unfortunate is the fact that despite Samson sacrificing his wicket to keep Buttler alive, the swashbuckling Englishman too lost his wicket in the very next over to Marcus Stoinis.
