SA vs ENG ODI Series: Schedule, Where to Watch on TV, online, live streaming details - All you need to know
The three-match ODI series will begin on January 27.
After a historic series win against Pakistan in the Test series, the Three Lions will next take on South Africa in a three-match ODI series starting January 27, 2023. This will also mark the beginning of their preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup which is scheduled to take place in India.
For South Africa, the series will hold the utmost value considering their position in the ODI Super League. The Temba Bavuma-led side currently stands 11th on the list - which means they will have to play the qualifiers in order to play the next edition of the 50-over World Cup.
Bavuma himself will be under immense pressure following his poor performance in white-ball cricket in recent times. In 2022, the 32-year-old has played seven ODIs and scored 231 runs at a strike rate of 71.96. He was also heavily criticised for his poor captaincy during the T20 World Cup. Thus, the home series is the perfect platform for Bavuma to make a comeback and prove to everyone that he indeed is the right man to lead the team.
Now coming back to England, the Jos Buttler-led side completely transformed their cricket in the recent past but against the Proteas pacers, things could be a bit difficult. The England management previously revealed their intention to bring back Ben Stokes in the scheme of things but the Test captain is yet to announce his return to ODI cricket. Nevertheless, the English side looks rock solid on paper and will be one of the favourite teams to lift the World Cup next year.
