SA vs ENG: South Africa set to brush 'World Cup qualification' demons aside
South Africa would fancy themselves going into the series as there is a realistic chance for qualification and that too in their home conditions.
South Africa go into a three-match ODI home series against England starting this Friday, January 27 and the series is extremely crucial for the Proteas. The series is part of the ODI World Cup Super league which is an ICC initiative to make sure the top teams qualify for the ODI World Cup. South Africa would fancy themselves going into the series as there is a realistic chance for qualification and that too in their home conditions.
In order to surpass the West Indies, who are presently in seventh place after finishing their schedule, South Africa must win a minimum of three of their remaining five games. The teams that fail to qualify through the automatic process will have to play a qualification tournament later this year in July to have a chance of being at the World Cup in India.
Shukri Conrad, the Proteas Test coach will be the head coach for this series in the absence of full-time limited overs coach Rob Walters. Walters will be missing this series owing to a few commitments back in New Zealand.
There were rumours as well that the South African team might see some new faces and the in-form players might get a chance to represent their nation. But the selectors have stuck with the same team with familiar faces as they look to challenge the opposition in each and every game.
