Joburg Super Kings' (JSG) spinner Aaron Phangiso has been reported for suspected bowling action in the ongoing SA20. During JSG’s game against Pretoria Capitals, the match officials noticed the same and reported to the league committee.
As per the franchise tournament's 'Suspected Illegal Bowling Action' guideline, the issue will be considered by the Bowling Action Panel, who would come up with a final decision. As per a report by ESPNcricinfo, the panel consists of match referee representative Gerrie Pienaar, former South Africa pacer Vernon Philander, and Cricket South Africa’s High-Performance Manager Vincent Barnes.
The three-member panel will review the video footage of the game in the meantime and come to a conclusion. Meanwhile, the 38-year-old is allowed to bowl until the panel reaches the conclusion. Notably, this is for the second time in his career that the veteran cricketer has been reported for suspected bowling action. The first instance was in 2016 One Day Cup, however, he was cleared to bowl after undergoing remedial work on his action.
Pretoria Capitals defeated JSG by six wickets
Meanwhile, the Wayne Parnell-led side thrashed Joburg Super Kings in the 13th match of the tournament. Batting first, the Super Kings could post only 122 runs on board, which the Capitals chased down with absolute ease.
Faf du Plessis gave his team a perfect start with his 51 off 22 deliveries but the middle order failed to capitalize as Anrich Nortje and James Neesham picked up three wickets each and broke the backbone of Joburg’s innings.
With the bat, opener Phillip Salt smashed an unbeaten half-century (52* off 30) while his partner Will Jacks amassed 34 off just 16 as the Capitals chased the total down in just 13 overs. With the win, they have moved to the top of the table (13 points from four games) while Joburg Super Kings are currently at the bottom with eight points from five games.
